SPACE MADNESS!
May 03, 2006 04:44:14 AM
So I'm taking another short break to write this. I just had another break threw, my digital design simulation worked. Boy that makes me happy :-) Unfortunately, though, I still have an entire hw assignment that needs done by 1pm, and I stil have to write up a review sheet for a final tonight at 6, oh yeah, and I still gota build and get my DD proj validated by 5pm, when the CEL closes for the remainder of the semster.
So I got plenty done, but still have plenty to do, but its all good cause I'ma chuggin. Choo Choo, Ha HA, Im a little train, WEEEE. Oh man, maintain Dan, maintain, if im not carefull, the space madness will take over! I dont suppose the 3 consecutive all-nighers are helping matters any either. Allright, back to work, ill just try to keep dodging the psychosis, he he, its like playing dodgeball on cr4ck!

Stuff
May 02, 2006 05:33:51 AM
So its like 5:30 in the morning, I have class at 8am, is it even worth going to bed? Normally I would say, yeah, 2 hours is better than no hours. But its almost 6am, and Ill need a shower and stuff when I get up cause i feel really nasty, and I know ill feel just god awefull when I do get up (if i get up) cause I am reaaaaaly tired. I guess Ill just stay up then, luckily I at least made some major headway on the DD project. This now officially means that I am at least half way done on every one of my projects. Thats sweet, I can almost see that light at the end of the tunnel.
So I was headed to the bathroom to brush my teeth, and I saw another freaken centipede! And each time I see one, they get bigger! I am really starting to get creeped out now. I am up to my 3rd confirmed kill! I'v lived here for almost 9 months now, and I havent seen any the whole time. Now with in the last 3 weeks I've seen 3, WTF!?

COMMENT: The centipede's have tracked you down from York, all the way to VT. Ever since you killed that one and posted the pictures on the internet for all to see, like some terrorist training video. Oh, and by the way, City on the Edge of Forever? You're lame, so lame..... Don't ever change.

So Much Damn Work!
May 01, 2006 03:56:13 AM
Ok, i seem to have ran into a little snag, so the fields project is taking a little longer than i thought. Getting the model inputted into the simulation program is proving to be more difficult than previously expected. The values are just so small that its like impossible to get the model represented accurately. AAAAAHHH, And I needed this project to be done tonight so I can get working on the other stuff. Everything is due by thursday, but the thing is, I have so many projects and hw assignments due that I would have to stay awake from now untill then continuously to get it all done! So no sleep untill thursday!
So why am I writting this entry if i have so much to do? Because i need to take a little break before my brain explodes. This is so sad, the actual start of finals will be like a vacation compared to the utter Hell I am going through now. I just want this all to be over, i wish i were in uva :'-(

...The Days Go By
April 30, 2006 01:53:09 PM
I find it amazing how short the days feel when you sleep in too long. It's like, if you sleep in till 1pm, then by the time you finally get up, clean up, and are ready to do stuff, it feels like the entire day has been wasited, like its over, just like that. Where as, on the other hand, if you get up by at least 9, the whole day feels soooo much longer. That little four hour difference makes all the difference in the world.
Today, for example, I woke up at 12:50pm and the day feels like its already in it's closure. I would have liked to have gotten up early, but there was no way. I was up till 6am working on a blasted project. It sure would be nice to be a morning person. I bet they get more out of life, or at least feel like time isn't passing as quickly. I must be as far from a morn-person as they come, because, even if I do get a good nights sleep, and I dont have anything to do the next day, Ill still sleep in till noon :-/, its like I just cant muster the strength to crawl out of bed till then. Oh well, maybe as I get older, Ill slowly get up ealier. It seems like all elderly people get up at the crack of dawn no problem, so I guess my time will come, eventually.

COMMENT: Hey, technically you slept only 7 hours. It's not long at all. But I know what you mean. It's just not the same getting up at 9 in the morning or 1 in the afternoon no matter what time you slept. Bet you're feeling grouchy =) SMILE! Do it a couple of times in front of the mirror. You'll feel better, I promise. If not, I'll take full responsibility =)

UVA over Tahiti
April 25, 2006 03:46:52 AM
Due to harsh schedules on both our parts, this past weekend was the only weekend I could see Khine before finals. Unfortunately that meant missing ZBTahiti, the 2nd of only 2 big parties a year. It was deff worth it thought, im sure. We did a lot of stuff. Friday involved dinner at a Mediteranian restaurant, Basil's, which makes really good cheese steaks and freaken sweet fries btw, a long walk/romantic evening by the pond, and a completely unexpected movie, Driving Ms Daisy, which was actually a pleasent departure from the norm, a good wholesome artsy film.
Sat started off with an adventure. We set out to find some trails to go hiking, and along the way, we found an awesome observatory! So being the ''science kiddies'' we are, we had to stop and investigate. Too bad it was all locked up, but it was quite a site to see. After that we finally settled on a trail, and hiked it. So far in, we stopped and set up a micro camp on a log and had a good old fashioned picnic! havent done that in who knows how long, that was kind of cool. When we were all done in the woods, we went to a retirement center to see her addopted grandma from one of her community service type organizations. Nice lady, felt good to make an elderly persons day. Right after that, it started to rain, but we decided to get some work done, so went to a library for Studdy-Time! LOL only moments into it, we were distracted by a buring desire for coffee, so we took a long walk threw the rain to another much more scary library that served it. As soon as we got back, we found out we had to leave cause they were closing early! So ultimately, like no real work was accomplished. We then headed back to lambeth, and khines roomates were watching Alien, so we partook. I swear to god, Khines reactions to the scary scenes are more entertaining then the movie it self. I mean iv seen girls jump but she litterally flys out of her seat!
My goodness we did a lot that day, ok, after the movie, we decided we were hungary again, so we went out for supper. We went to this real nice restaurant, Northern Exposure, (no its not a strip club) its this really fancy new-york style italian place. The food was great, service was pretty good, but my overall experience was left slightly tainted due to an odd encounter at the bathroom. So im next in line to use the one-person bathroom. This old drunk guy works his way to the front and asks, ''whats the hold up here?'' to which everyone responds, ''its a single''. He asks, ''well does it have a sink?'' everyone, ''yes'' and he yells out, ''then its a double!'' Next thing i know im being pushed into the bathroom with this guy, all the while im insisting that he just go ahead of me, and he keeps asking, ''what are you, gay?'' So with out any further delay, i do my business, while he does his.....in the sink. As if things weren't awkward enough, the sink was right beside the toilette with out any kind of divider, and he was up in my face like litterally 5 inches away telling me a suiside story! WTF!? Needless to say, I left that place with a sence of confusion and slightly traumatized. ANYWAYS, moving on. We went back to the pond afterwards for a little, then finally it was time for bed.
ok finally Sun. Didnt do so much with Khine this day. She had an appointment was her other addopted grandma while i slept in. So while she was out, I went walking around campus looking for an earring she lost, no success. I also got some interesting campus photos, read a paper in the ampatheater, heard a symphony, played a piano, and got a free lunch at an outdoor residential program. Then due to my own stupidity and impatients, left just after her return. I had a meeting anyways, but I was originally planning on skipping it. Im still regreting my early departure, the more time i can spend up there, the better (still sorry, you didnt deserve that :-(
So now that iv written all this, it really gives a chance to reflect, and wow, with the exception of the misunderstanding on sunday, everything was perfect! I cant wait till our next encounter. Untill then, back to work

PWN3D!
April 19, 2006 10:41:16 PM
I totally r0x0red my latest Digital Design project! I finally have time to myself again! It was all like the most difficult one yet, they just kept getting worse and worse, but after all my stressing and sleepless nights, I ended up with an implimentation more efficient than most! Now granted i handed it in a day late, and that will dock me 10pts, its all good because I think I should get a 100 on this one, so i can deal with a 90 (it wont be like last time i thought i was getting a good grade, since i had it validated in a working state, im gauranteed a good grade, so no unexpected WTF-bombs this time :-). I was sooo close to just blowing the proj completely off too, like i was so stressed the night before it was due that i even started working out what my final grade in the class would be if i just plane didnt turn it in. Im really glad I stuck with it now cause my final design worked out to be really stream lined, and when i actually built the thing, it worked the moment i plugged it in. How freaken sweet is that?

To give an idea of one of the problems presented by this project, iv reinterpreted a small part of it in the form of a 'newspaper puzzle' so non EEs can give a stab at it. I posted a solution too so check it out.

Problem

Solution

Anyways, main point, lots of work, but its over with, its handed in and already forgot about. I feel great! Like this huge fat giant was sitting on my shoulders waiting for somone to throw him a t-bone steak, but no one ever did, so he got tired of waiting and finally got up and stomped away angrily. So I just might have to break out an LBC brewsky tonight to celebrate. Now its smooth sailing all the way up to my UVA trip this weekend! Oh, and heres some pics of the work.

Bday, Gas, FA
April 14, 2006 02:39:44 AM
Seems like I have a lot on my mind here lately, 2 entries in one day, thats a first for me, I think, hmmm, too lazy to go back and verify, so we'll just leave it at that. Oh wait! Its tomorrow now, its not today anymore, so techically its a new day, if that makes any sense at all :-/ (maybe Im PMSing :-) Anyway three more things I feel I must elaborate on...

My brother just turned 20 on the 12th. The passage of time these days never ceases to amaze me. It litterally seems like just yesterday that Brandon and I were at the farm house getting into some kind of trouble with the neighbor kids. Sigh, but those days are over, and Brandons not even a teenager anymore, wow that sudenly makes me feel even older. So happy Bday to you man. I only hope you can still find direction in your life even if The Man will continue to press down on you for a while yet. You're better than that, though, so I know you can overcome it, you just have to see past the evils of temptation.

Another thing that came up was an economic issue. As a guy whos pretty frugal with his money, I felt I should touch on this matter. Ill start by saying this, 'It has begun!' Its gas prices. They are currently the highest I have ever seen them in my life, $2.80 a gallon. And thats here in the little town of blacksburg, and its still like 2 months till summer, so Im sure it will get even higher. I just know it will breach $3 this year. But can we really expect anything other than this, though? From an engineers standpoint, at the current rate, the worlds supply of petrolium will be exhausted in just 40 years! Thats with in our life time, scary huh? So naturally with each passing year, the stuff gets more and more rare thus increasing its value. So the gas rush has begun, prices will rise, fuel will become precious, either something drastic has to happen to the econmoics behind the worlds dependancy on crude oil fast, or another world war, or worse, an internationally wide Great Depression will become an inevitability. But untill then, we will just have to keep paying far out the ass

Allright, so finally, another thing that needs addessed; because I said so. The play Romeo and Juliet is coming up next week. Now for those of you who are culturally lacking, this Shakspearian play, when preformed in accordance with Shakespear's original vision, is easily the greatest victorean era production of all time. Also, I not only want to see it for its classic value, stimulating plot, or its brilliant use of theatrical tragedy, but also because one of my house-mates will be staring in it, plus with Khine coming down next week, it would make for a perfect Friday night! So what do I have beef with this time? The fact that you can't get tickets!
So theres this class FA2004 (Fine Art Apreciation), yeah, sounds cool, and it actually is, but the problem is, its basically a required core class. You need just 1 credit hour in Art&Aesthetics at VT, and that class satisfies that. As part of the class you, look at slides of paintings, learn jazz history, and attent a few campus preformances.
So what does this all mean? Well what it boils down to, is that this class, between the 2 sections, has a whopping 1300 students where 90% of them are only there becasue they have to be. And it just so happens that one of the preformances they have to see this semester is, YUP, R and J! The cast of the play will be doing 10 preformances, and to provide the audience with a more personal experience, they are doing it in a smaller theater, one that only holds 200 people. Ok now lets do some math, 1300 FA students divided by 200 people per show means that retarded class will be taking up 6.5 shows! OMG! Thats rediculous! Almost 7 shows reserved soley for people who don't even want to be there? That play is being preformed almost exclusively for that gay ass class! Its supposed to be open to the public for god sakes! How is this fair at all? The people who really want to see it and actually enjoy some of the finer things in life are actually being pushed aside for a bunch of sweaty jocks who probablly can't even tell the difference between a metaphore or a simile, AAAHHHH OUTRAGIOUS! Needless to say, the professor of that class will be receiving a very very angry and hostile letter containing a few choice words that I dare not itterate here from a highly irate student that shall remain anonymous.

DATE: April 14, 2006 10:01:43 AM     NAME: KM
COMMENT: Dan, it's okay =) play or no play, I know we'll have fun that day. And I'm sure there'll be other Shakespear plays. And R&J is the most frequently performed so we'll have many more chances to catch it yet. Calm down, you've been fuming over it for days..You'll get wrinkles that way =P

DATE: April 15, 2006 03:17:33 AM     NAME: DK
COMMENT: Khine, your absolutely correct, infact I probabbly do have an extra wrinkle over this one. I think at this point, though, it's become more a matter of principal than anything. While Ive calmed down about it now, I still feel like the guy responsible for this should at least be called out on it to prevent this from happening again in the future.

Office full of Nerds
April 13, 2006 05:22:33 PM
I am nerdier than 94% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!      My boss sends me this link today, to put an end to who really is the nerdiest guy in our IT dept. Its a quick online quiz (to which im normally against, but given the circumstances caved) that can supposidly determine what kind of nerd you are based on a series of interesting questions. I found that more questions applied to me than I though. I ended up scoring in the 94th percentile, Luke won with an incredible 96th percentile, and David in third with a 90th. So apparently this makes me a 'Supreme Nerd' and has earned me that nifty graphic off to the left there (its linkable to the survey).

Pissed
April 13, 2006 04:01:16 AM
Ok now Im really pissed! First off, it is sooo hard to get up for 8am classes, let alone, stumble out of bed, get cleaned up and drive half asleep to campus. Well I finally get there, and theres no one in the class room! I find a note on the door that class was cancled! That bastard! I could be in bed sleeping right now! At the very least he could have sent an email out over the listserv, I check my email every morning for situations that might arise just like this one.
Ok, it gets worse. I take my little nap in the Hancock Atrium like I always do, then at 11 take the hike to Torg for bio. Once there, and on my way to my seat, I couldnt help but to notice everybody frantically flipping threw their notes, rumaging threw the text book, and shuffling threw note cards. I was like, oh no no no, this cant be right! Sure enough, it was test time! Lets just say, I pretty much had my ass handed too me on a silver platter. It's not that I have anything against biology, but because i was unprepared, that test SUCKED! I do believe that to get an equivalent feel, you would have to take a bio major (Khine for example :-) and sit them down to blindly take a midterm on Static electromagnetic charge distribution and coupling. Because thats about how I felt after that one.
So things wouldnt have been so bad had I known this test was today. I could have utilized my cancled class for study time, but instead I slept more :-/ It could have been the perfect offset. But oh well such is life, and all is over with, nothing I can do about it now. Thank god I only need a D to pass bio...

COMMENT: OH MY!! Static electromag-what charge distribution what-what? Okay, I think I understand what you went through..gosh! Not pretty.

Know what I do? The syllabus always has all the test dates printed out, right? At the beginning of the semester, I look at the syllabi and just write down all the test dates into my schedule diary for the entire semester. You refer to your diary all the time, so forgetting a test never becomes a problem =) Try that this coming sem!

Electricity
April 08, 2006 08:40:21 PM
For those of you who do not live in the blacksburg/christiansburg area, there was a god awfull electrical storm last night. So much lightening that it looked like the 4th of july. And complimenting this light show, the storm itself acted like a monsoon. It was raining buckets while blowing what seemed like gail-force winds! Well for the first time in a while, we lost power last night. It was terrible! I had no idea what to do, and I felt so lost. What they say is true, you dont realize how much you take things for granted untill they are gone.
At first I think i was going a little nutty. I played dress-up and started pretending like we were in Jurasic Park and if we didnt restore the complex's power, the rapters would eat us. My hysteria was not left to run rampid alone, however, some of the other guys got out their survival and paintball gear and joined in. We failed to retake the compound, but we did get out with our lives!
Much later that night, more guys came over, and one of the brothers dad came by to visit from new jersey. He was pretty cool, he even brought 2 big cases of beer. Nice guy. We were all going to tell ghost stories, but that idea died off pretty quickly, so instead we played a game of trivial pursuit. Not bragging or anything but... yup, my team won. Between the 3 of us on my team, I dont think we missed a single nature/science question, it was sweeeeeet.
So power was brought back online at 5:30am this morning. I know this because i was violentlty thrown from my slumber by the sudden surge of devices powering back up. I love you electricity, Im sorry I took you for granted, never leave me again :-)

Not as good as I thought
April 06, 2006 05:39:10 PM
Why is it, that when ever you think you did really good on an assignment, that it turns out that you actually did pretty bad. And just the opposite is true. If you're not feeling too confident in your work, and you think you did pretty bad, then when we you get it back, it turns out that you actually did pretty avg.
I just finally got my DD test back today from like a month ago, the one I thought I got an A+ on, yeah well, lets just say, the grade I ended up getting wasnt so hot. I tell ya, my luck sometimes :-/

VT Parking Services
April 05, 2006 06:23:42 PM
There is something seriously wrong with our school's parking policy. How can they take away even more parking spaces and continue issuing parking tickets like candy!? Currently, there are now 2 construction projects taking place on campus. They're putting in a new sewage pipe on one side of campus right threw a parking lot thus displacing cars, and now their beginning construction of a new building which happens to be on, yup, you guessed it, another parking lot! Heres a few facts, parking services issues over 15,000 comuter passes each year, there are only around 10,000 spaces on the whole of campus. Over 1.2 million dollars of revenew is collected by the school each semester in parking tickets alone! As a comuter myself, I can't tell you how many times I couldnt find a single parking space on campus. Others have given up and just parked on the grass next to a parking space, or next to a line thats not a real parking space, and what happened to them? They got ticketed, why? Because they legitimately purchased a parking pass yet there were no places to park. Yeah, makes a lot of sense doesnt it!? Ive also heard stories of people who tried to fight those tickets with no avail, what were they told, ''should have taken the bus''. Are you serious!? Then they wouldnt have bought a parking pass in the first place! and on top of that, why would they sell them a parking pass if their just going to tell them to take the bus? MESSED UP! So with all the constuction going on, litterally hundereds of spaces are being lost. Parking will continue to get worse. Already today, in our comuter lot, a piece of it was newly designated Faculty/Staff to ammend for their loss in another lot, and I kid you not, there were 4 cars in a row ticketed, and at least 10 other cars with a C-Pass instead of a F/S-Pass, so they will all get ticketed too on the next round. GO VT Parking Services! You guys RULE!

Formals
April 03, 2006 02:03:02 AM
Amazing weekend! Not only was the weather nice, there was a ton of events going on campus that I partook in, and Khine was there for all of it. Fraternaty stuff, CAS Presentation, concerts, community service projects, and probabbly more, just a great weekend!

It all started with Khine's arrival around six pm on Friday. She had arrived at Tech from UVA at roughly the same time I did from Target. She came down with my next door neighbor Alex's gf, Lindsay, who also goes to UVA, and is also a bio major, how freaken awesome is that? After settling in a bit then going threw some random pics and music vids, we went out for supper, Macadoo's. Dinner was good, and they always give such huge portions. So right after that, we went right accross the street to the math empo. She wanted to see The Largest All-Mac Com Lab on the East Coast. As we were leaving the empo, we decided to check out the nextdoor coffee shop, where they were haveing an open mic night. This was really cool. It was really hippy-ish this time. Normally when I go to these, its just a bunch of kids playing music from punk to country on their guitars. This time it was a girl and this guy playing true improvisized jazz. Really moving stuff. and there was this other girl that read her poetry. One was about her friend who died and her poem tried to convey her feelings to the audience threw complex metaphore in rhymed iambic pentameter, its like the depression she experienced, was taken right out of her and planted right there in the coffee shop center where we all could experience it. Crazyness. OH yeah, and there was a guy that played a fiddle.

So Saturday started bright and early, 7am. Khine and I got up, freshend up a bit, then went out to Hardy's for breakfast. We then went straight to campus where I showed her my office at work (which was on the walk over), then headed for the WarMemorial Chapel where we were to meet for the Big Event community service project. I couldnt believe how many brothers wussed out this year. Granted we still had 18 zbts show up and there were hundreds of other organizations present, just because their girlfriends were in town doesnt mean that they couldnt show up. Its only once a year, and its a great way to help out the environment or comminity for that matter. I dont see my gf but once a month and we both went out, so NO EXCUSSES! Last year it was a bit strenuous, we were to paint a handy capped woman's house, it litterally took all day. This year we got off easy, though, with a trash clean up route. We divided into 2 teams and head out to Roanoke Street, aka, party street. Some areas were worse than others, but I think we did a pretty damn good job. After about 2 hours, that part of town was looking fine.
Wow this is gonna be a big entry, but anyways, moving on. After the bigevent, we went back to the house to shower up and get all the trash off. After which we were invited to go with Alex, Chuck, and Lindsay back to campus for lunch. Since we were actually starving, and Khine hadnt experienced fine VT dining yet, we quickly agreed. It was good as always. So after that, we had a beief period of freedom, which was utilized for SLEEP! Nothing like a quick nap in the middle of the day to recharge the ole batteries.
So 4pm rolls along. Chinabration time (a cultural presentation as preformed by CAS, the Chinese American Society)! Back to campus with us. They were running a little behind, but that was all right cause we were a little late too. Coinsodently enough, Khine and I were greeted at the auditorium entrance by Chris Win, who was also running the sound board during the presentation. So it was freaken awesome. They really had their act together this year. Lots of fight sceens, the dances were well coriographed, and there was not a single a/v problem. Durring the intermission, we went to the ball room right next door, where SoundFest was being held. This is a concert of a bunch of indi bands trying to get publicity. Wasnt there for more than 10 min but the music was delightfully weezer-ish. We then went back next door to watch the conclusion of Chinabration.
Its a little past 6, the PreGame Party at the house has already started, formals are at 8, so we had under 2 hours to get ready. As a guy, i was all ready in about 30 min, Khine unfortunately needed a little less than the whole time. But she pulled it off. After being in that bathroom alone that whole time, she emerged looking absolutely fabulous! I finally got to see this dress she was keeping secret, beautiful. Not long after, we were escorted by a DD to the Formals. It was at this point that I felt like a millionare. We got to lane stadium, took an elevator to the top, and entered this awsome luxerious lounge. So i was all dressed up, standing in an exclusive sky-box overlooking the stadium, and I had a beautiful girl arm in arm, How could I not feel like Trump or Gates?
The location r0x0red, the food was exquisit, the scenery was great, except for the typically lacking music selection (in my opinion) it was the pefect closuring to an awesome day. At around mid night, we caught a ride back to the house, got a little more liquered up, not too bad of course ;-) watched some movies and enjoyed our last night together.

Sadly enough, this brings us to Sunday, the end of this journey, but thankfully the end of this intense blog entry! We thought we slept in till 11, really just veging out, trying to do as little as possible, but because of daylight savings, turns out we were laying there till noon. So when we finally got up, Khine cleaned up, got everything packed up, and as soon as Lindasy got back from brunch, we all said our goodbyes, and they headed back to UVA. It was the sadest part of the weekend :-( So when they were well on their way, I went back to bed, got up at 5, went to davids to fix the server issue, had my zbt meeting at 6:30, played the piano till 9, headed back home. WORK TIME!
