So because of a combination of knowing the right people, and being in the right place at the right time, I mannaged to get one of the best jobs on campus. Almost every campus just consists of either a dirty mundane repetative task or a completely boring make-sure-no-one-steals-anything job. Not to mention, they all pay minimum wage. I, on the other hand, managed to obtain a position that pays well, involves work that I enjoy, and offers endless perks.
I'm a network admin for the aerospace and ocean engineering department at VT, an IT guy, aka, "Dan Krill, your companies computer guy". Its absolutely fabulous. No set schedule, I work when I can, no time clock, its like salary, I just report my hours at the end of the pay cycle, I work with very knowledgable grad-students and doctors, and I've gotten to do many neat things. Not only do I now have campus-wide computer access, I have been in the sub-sonic stability wind tunnel, flown a plane, played around in the Navy fighter jet fligh simulator, and even got to work on our 500 node super computer!
