After looking at all the places I've visited for my work it may be hard to believe but I not only thuroughly enjoyed my visit to Iowa, I actually really liked it. The cities have lots of people but it's not over bearing, you can still get around easily. Like rural New England, there are still lots of little locally owned stores and restaurants everywhere, and I'm always a big fan of small business, I mean if you're going to give your money away, do you really want to give it to people who are already rich?

Any way, while I was there I visted Cedar Rapids to visit my college friend, Kevin. He's been out there since graduation all by his lonesome. So we had some drinks then he gave me a tour of the area. I also visited Riverside, the Future Birthplace of Captain Kirk. Acording to Star Trek, Jim Kirk is from Iowa, so Riverside is basically a tiny town that capitalizes off it's claims of being his home.

My actual work site was in Cedar Falls at the University of Northern Iowa. It's another medium sized town along the Cedar River. It too has a nice little downtown spot for plenty of places to go in the evenings.
