dude! yeah, there's one like this in washington's national history museum. the pendulum actually is stationary, it's the Earth that is moving

yup, so as the earth turns under the pendulum, the pins get knocked over one by one, and because the earth spins at a constant speed, the same pins get knocked over at the same time each day, so you can tell what time it is!
