Low Gas Prices?
November 12, 2008 12:46:44 AM
Gas is down to $1.99, how can this be!? I can't hardly believe it, I mean, I haven't seen it cost that much since high school. It was about $4 this summer and now it's half that, unbelievable. But just because it's more affordable again doesn't mean we should all go out and get that SUV you've been wanting. We still need to get away from fossil fuels. I can't stress that enough. Just because these prices are low doesn't mean that it's ok to stick with gas. This is just the calm before the storm. Watch, prices will be astronomical this upcoming summer and shortages will breakout all over again. It's the man lowering us into a false sense of security, high prices then low prices, it's the fishing method, keeping us in check by letting us think that gas prices could always go back down again, but still keeping us fully dependent on foreign oil. God I need an electric car...

COMMENT: I hope that we'll keep moving forward in the direction of fossil-less fuels and renewables. It's the only way to go if we want sustainable energy in the next 50 years, but we all know that. This gas thing is crazy indeed! What really happened was the estimators were wrong. Dead wrong. Now who is to know if they were honestly wrong or had someone twisting their arms. What's crazy is they will STILL make a record profit off of all of this. The price of the barrel is down MORE then half ($155 to 60$) and prices have gone down LESS then half ($4.00 to $2.30). I'm tkaing national averages here. Although great for us, I hope we realize they might top their own world record on profits again. If you recall it was $40 billion some time last year. That's why I laugh when I see their commercials for $20 million investment into renewable. Sounds like a lot to us, but that's half a percent of just their pure profits....what a joke!! Anyway that's my rant and I'll keep riding my bike and using public transport in Chicago as much as I can until we (you and I) finally build our electric cars.

COMMENT: Man, when you give the actual percentage of profits contributed towards alternative fuel research, it really does put things into perspective. But I guess it makes sense, they are not in the business of putting themselves out of business, thats why I think it's so important for the non-evil companies to step up and really put forth a real effort. And I really respect the self made millionaire-inventors who are using their own money to develop renewable energy sources. Not sure if I trust T Boon yet, but there are a few who actually are trying to make a difference.
