Atlanta Sky Club February 20, 2012 10:39 PM
I had to fly to another naval base for work today and so many interesting things happened on my way there that I thought I should write about it.

The first thing was in Atlanta, my flight was over booked and since there was a later flight only 2 hours later I volunteered my seat. I got a $200 flight voucher and a one day lunch voucher. While I was standing there at the desk waiting for the stewardess to print my stuff, I got to talking to the other guy who volunteered his seat. He was an old long-haired, yet balding hippy guy in sandals and a bob Segar t-shirt named George from Newport News, VA and a fellow Virginia Tech graduate. He said he was a union rep for federal employees so he’s on the road 3 weeks a month visiting military installations. Anyway, we briefly got to talking about where we would eat with our voucher and he mentioned how he’s going to the Delta sky club first for pre-gaming drinks, I mentioned that I had never been in one of those places, so he invited me to be his guest. I went along and it was pretty neat. You go up several floors, and enter this sleek swanky place with free snacks and an open bar. After about 3 drinks and a long interesting chat we parted ways for our actual dinners.

With the dinner voucher I was able to get a huge salad and a Sam Adams, always a good choice.

Ok time to get on the next flight. This one was overbooked too! But I didn’t volunteer again, I actually made that flight. While I was in line to board, that’s when I noticed that my seat was 2A…. First class! My first time. Comfy seats, a pillow and blanket, leg room, and just as you sit the stewardess asks, what you would like to drink, holy crap more free drinks? I got one while taxiing and another in the air.

During that flight I sat next to this older lady Margret, 57 I think, who lives in Pensacola and we got talking too. She was saying how she lived in Nashville once, was just in Boston visiting one of her daughters, and how she wished her son in college was more like me, lol, and that my parents must be proud. It was sort of weird, she kept praising me, but at the time I guess it was making my head grow, and for an older lady she was still ok looking, maybe she was flirting with me?

Finally at the Pensacola airport when I went to get a rental car, I was only allowed to get a mid sized car, they always allow me to get a free size upgrade, but this time when I asked she said there would be an up charge, so I just settled for what she had. When I walked all the way to the parking garage I found that the car I had chosen was a small 2 door car. That would not work for my radio survey work this week, I have tons of equipment, plus I don’t think the antenna poles would even fit! So after I had already settled into the car, I came to copes with myself and was like, this isn’t going to work, so I unpacked everything and walked all the way back to the rental desk in baggage claim. This time I got a different lady and after telling her the car was too small she said I could get a van or an SUV for no extra charge! WTF? I swear these people just say what ever they want. So I took the new Nissan SUV, and man is it new, it only had 13.5 miles on it, I guess I’m the first driver for it. I’m glad I went back in! Interesting day!
COMMENT: Ah. That`s how you`ve heard of Newport News, I see.
