Jogging Club at Work October 21, 2010 01:43:42 PM
I discovered there is an organized group of runners who jog several miles 3 times a week at my work. Normally I would run on my own in the gym on a treadmill, but after hearing about this group I thought I'd go with them instead. I figure running with others could help keep me motivated and could keep pushing me to do better.

Yesterday was my first run with them, and let me tell you, 4.2 miles at even a leaserly pace was excruciating for me! The course they take has so many hills and I've never even attempted more than 3.2 miles and these guys are seasoned marathon runners. I was able to keep up for about half way, then I started lagging behind a little. A few times some of the guys ran in place till I caught up. The most embarrassing part was when we went past this one house with a bunch of guys on the front porch. I was able to hear one clearly say, ''And theres the guy who always lags behind.'' :-/ I wanted to go over there and punch him.

At around 3.5 miles, I peeled off to head back to the office. I walked a little, then they caught up with me only 5 min later, so I ran with them all the way back to the office. So I probably ran 3.75 miles and walked .1, while they ran the full 4.2. When we got back, we stretched for a good 15min. I was huffing, but regained myself quickly. I'm a sprinter, not an endurance runner but I guess if I stay with these guys I'll eventually be able to run the whole way.
Shady Craigslist Sale - Server Sold October 20, 2010 01:29:53 PM
After many months of posting and countless price reductions, I finally sold my old rack mount server. It's aged but works great, has decent stats, and runs stable, it just takes up lots of space and plenty of electricity. It wasn't worth me keeping around. Anyway, this whole sale was shady from the beginning. When the buyer initially contacted me, he gave me a disconnected phone number, his email address had the word SCAM in it, he never once asked to see the server operate, he never even asked a single question about it or it's functionality, he just wanted my address to meet so he could pick it up right away.

Anxious to finally get this out of my closet, I agreed to sell it to him, but I wanted to meet in public, so I had him meet me at Publix, front and center before work. When I get there, we see each other from our car and wave. Neither of us get out. I get out and stand by my car cautiously, he starts signaling me to come over. I hold my ground. Eventually he gets out and moves toward me. I meet him half way and all seems ok so far. He spoke very little English, only Spanish. He was in his late 30s and had a rough face, like he lived a very hard life. He was wearing shorts down around his knees and a cammo tank top. We both head to my car and I get the server out of the back seat, hand him the box of accessories, and then we head to his car. He opens his trunk, I look around, in his car and in his trunk for someone who might try to jump me. I even hand the server to him to put into his own trunk so he can't try to push me inside. When it was time to pay me, he had to get back into his own car, I thought he was just going to drive away, then I thought, maybe he's getting a gun! But luckily he just pulls out a wet crinkled ball of cash and pays me my dues. Feeling a little better, I asked him again, what he plans on doing with it, he only says, 'Church'. I'm like OK, well good luck with that, I hope you know how to use it. Then we drove off in different directions. So all turned out ok I guess, but man was that the shadiest legit transaction ever! And church my butt, he probably found buyers for 10 times the amount I sold it for.
10-10-10 October 10, 2010 08:31:56 PM
Today's date was 10-10-10. If you interpret that as binary (101010) and convert it back to decimal, it's 42! The answer to life, the universe, and everything! Hmm,
I didn't learn anything new today, oh well.
Free Flu Shots at work October 5, 2010 08:05:24 PM
Got a flu shot for the first time since childhood, I usually opt out of it each year. Not really sure why I decided to get one for a change, I mean, I haven't had the flu
since I was a little kid,
and I never bother getting the flu vaccines (probably because I never get the flu). But this time I guess I figured I didn't want to get sick over the winter
and my job is offering the vaccine for free again, so why not. Well now I wish I had never got the thing. Man! In only 3 hours after the injection, I started feeling woozy,
weak, and disoriented.
By the time I got home, I had all the classic symptoms of H1N1. Fever, dizziness, apathy, stomach discomfort, runny nose, wheezing, heat flashes rapidly followed by
cold sweats, it was terrible! I felt like complete and utter crap. I was even getting worried weather I'd even recover or not by Friday, which is the start of all the Oktoberfest
activities.

Well sure enough, the next morning, after a good deep sleep (despite the fire alarm going off at 1am due to the furnace being fired up for the first time
of the season), I felt great. I got out of bed with a mild headache, but my body felt as if I had never had any sort of sickness at all. I suppose since it's been so long
since I've had any sort of flu or vaccine, that I'm be more prone to the symptoms involved with getting these shots, and man did I ever get the symptoms alright!
Double Mile, Whole Foods, Last 2 Days September 28, 2010 09:21:45 PM
After trying for 2 weeks I was finally able to run 2 miles in 16 min. I've only ever been able to do it once before. It's a lot harder than it sounds! I am currently in my late 20s at 150 lbs and near 6 feet, so running this distance in that time is actually the requirement for a passing grade in the Army's boot camp. I found that to do it on a treadmill the easiest pattern for me is to run the first .75 miles at 7.5 mph, than .25 at 8 mph, this will get you an 8 min mile, then repeat for the second mile.

Just this past weekend Khine was here again and this time we discovered another neat new area worth exploring in the greater Nashville area. It's sort of like a downtown area of Green Hills. Lots of outdoor shops and places to eat, but my favorite place of all, the whole foods stores! Man these places are great. I've heard about them, but have never actually gone myself. Not only do they have all the good for you healthy and organically grown stuff, it's their variety too, they have herbs, grains, and other ingredients you just can't find in normal grocery stores. And the cheese and beer selection! OMG, I felt like a kid in a candy store. Cheeses of all ages and worldly origins, and beers from all different micro breweries. They even let you build your own 6 packs like the vintage cellar back at VT. Also, if you go on the weekends, there are enough free samples throughout the store that you could practically make a meal of it. Oh and their salad and hot bars are better stocked than any all-you-can-eat restaurant I've ever been to.

Other things of mention. Today my skynet server stopped running, I think it's hard disk is dying but not sure yet, it keeps freezing after about 2min after booting. Yesterday I blew up a mushroom in the microwave, sounded like an m80. There was mush every where. Next time I'll be sure to cover my curry :-) Tonight I still smell the faint remnants of pesticide in my bedroom, so if no one sprayed last night, there must be a dead cockroach in there somewhere.
