Sprained Ankle July 07, 2012 1:18 PM
I fell off the porch while rushing around trying to get all my yard work done and ended up ratcheting my ankle 90 degrees in a direction it's not supposed to bend in. The sudden pain was so intense I was instantly made light headed and thought for sure I had broken it. After icing it and elevating it for a bit I found that it could bare weight, so we concluded it was sprained and not broken. Ironically this is the same foot on which I destroyed my big toe a few weeks back (also while running through the back yard)! Now my foot is missing a big toe nail AND is so swollen that none of my shoes fit :-/
Another Bad Delta Airlines Experience June 12, 2012 3:02 PMDelta,

First and foremost, because of a cargo door that jammed TWICE on this Delta airline, once prior
to departing and again upon arriving, the flight was so delayed that I missed my connecting
flight. Missing it was not so bad, these things happen, but due to the constant disorganization
of the staff, I was rolled over to later flights 3 times due to over sold flights and
miss-communication. I could have taken the second flight, but after being denied a seat on the
first makeup flight, I was automatically rolled over to the last flight of the day instead, and
so was not even made aware of the existence of this second flight until it already left, and it
left only half full! The third flight I was forced to take was not only late at night, it was
also very delayed due to a missing flight crew. It ended up taking me over 28 hours to get home
and the only retribution I was offered was a 6$ food voucher.

Also on this flight my flight attendant call button did not work, and my overhead reading light
did not work. I also checked 1 box with my luggage, and it arrived completely destroyed. I've
checked boxes before and never had a problem, there was always some wear or slight damage which
is expected, but this was obviously willfully ripped, kicked, and smashed as if to teach me to
never check a box again.

It should also be mentioned that on the flight over, I was incorrectly informed by Delta staff
that I should pick my checked bags up at the final destination, not at my first international
embarkation as you would normally think. I questioned them on this, and they reassured me that
'Delta has an agreement with Japan'. This is 100% false, Delta staff needs to be re-educated on
this. It was not until I had already checked into my first domestic flight over seas when they
told me I still need to pick up my bags from customs. With only an hour left, I had to take a
shuttle back to the first terminal, unable to speak Japanese, go back through immigration and
customs to retrieve by bag, then rush back to the domestic terminal, check the bags, then go
through security again, barely in time to catch the flight. All because Delta is not aware of
their own policies.

After all of this I am extremely angry with Delta's performance this trip and am seeking some
form of retribution. Monetary compensation is not necessary as every company has it's bad days,
but I feel that after the mental strain I had to suffer in both directions of this trip, Delta
could at least make a final attempt at customer satisfaction by issuing some type of flight
credit voucher at least large enough to cover a domestic round trip flight. I would consider
that fair.
Thank you for hearing me out,
Dan
RIP Centipede April 11, 2012 7:41 AM
My Pet Centipede died :-( I caught him in my dining room at my last house almost a full year ago. He grew soo much, and now he's gone. His last meal was a fuzzy caterpillar, and I can't stop wondering if the caterpillar was poisonous, and so maybe I inadvertently killed it. Terrible.
Atlanta George February 24, 2012 10:59 PM
On the way home from working all week in Pensacola, at the airport waiting for my first flight segment, I ran into George again! The guy I met on the way TO Pensacola who hooked me up with all those free drinks. He was apparently on the same flight as me back through Atlanta to get home.

Our flight was delayed heavily due to weather so we got to talking again. Mostly about nothing, interesting places we've visited, how I met Khine, how he took his Alzheimer-stricken father to Vegas, he even showed me his life platinum status cards with holiday inn, mariot, delta, etc, crazy how much he travels! He said he uses all his points to go to Europe for free twice a year to see concerts. He especially likes Amsterdam for their 'coffe shops', you know, the ones that don't really serve coffee :-)

In Atlanta both of our connecting flights were delayed again, by several hours! So of course we spent most of the time in the Sky Club again. After the never-ending flow of free drinks and conversation we finally exchanged business cards. And as we departed to our different gates, he remembered to give me one last thing, another coupon, it was a special voucher that gets you free drinks on Delta flights even if the flight is a regional commuter!
Who is this guy!? He's like the adult candyman of airports!

Sure enough his little coupon worked! I was able to get drinks on my delayed flight back to TRI, lol, in fact, I was the ONLY person drinking anything on that flight because like I said, it's a commuter flight, so Delta doesn't even have a beverage service for those.

In total, hanging out with George probably got me 20 FREE drinks. That is something else! You never know who you can run into at the airport so don't be afraid to open conversations sometimes!
Atlanta Sky Club February 20, 2012 10:39 PM
I had to fly to another naval base for work today and so many interesting things happened on my way there that I thought I should write about it.

The first thing was in Atlanta, my flight was over booked and since there was a later flight only 2 hours later I volunteered my seat. I got a $200 flight voucher and a one day lunch voucher. While I was standing there at the desk waiting for the stewardess to print my stuff, I got to talking to the other guy who volunteered his seat. He was an old long-haired, yet balding hippy guy in sandals and a bob Segar t-shirt named George from Newport News, VA and a fellow Virginia Tech graduate. He said he was a union rep for federal employees so he’s on the road 3 weeks a month visiting military installations. Anyway, we briefly got to talking about where we would eat with our voucher and he mentioned how he’s going to the Delta sky club first for pre-gaming drinks, I mentioned that I had never been in one of those places, so he invited me to be his guest. I went along and it was pretty neat. You go up several floors, and enter this sleek swanky place with free snacks and an open bar. After about 3 drinks and a long interesting chat we parted ways for our actual dinners.

With the dinner voucher I was able to get a huge salad and a Sam Adams, always a good choice.

Ok time to get on the next flight. This one was overbooked too! But I didn’t volunteer again, I actually made that flight. While I was in line to board, that’s when I noticed that my seat was 2A…. First class! My first time. Comfy seats, a pillow and blanket, leg room, and just as you sit the stewardess asks, what you would like to drink, holy crap more free drinks? I got one while taxiing and another in the air.

During that flight I sat next to this older lady Margret, 57 I think, who lives in Pensacola and we got talking too. She was saying how she lived in Nashville once, was just in Boston visiting one of her daughters, and how she wished her son in college was more like me, lol, and that my parents must be proud. It was sort of weird, she kept praising me, but at the time I guess it was making my head grow, and for an older lady she was still ok looking, maybe she was flirting with me?

Finally at the Pensacola airport when I went to get a rental car, I was only allowed to get a mid sized car, they always allow me to get a free size upgrade, but this time when I asked she said there would be an up charge, so I just settled for what she had. When I walked all the way to the parking garage I found that the car I had chosen was a small 2 door car. That would not work for my radio survey work this week, I have tons of equipment, plus I don’t think the antenna poles would even fit! So after I had already settled into the car, I came to copes with myself and was like, this isn’t going to work, so I unpacked everything and walked all the way back to the rental desk in baggage claim. This time I got a different lady and after telling her the car was too small she said I could get a van or an SUV for no extra charge! WTF? I swear these people just say what ever they want. So I took the new Nissan SUV, and man is it new, it only had 13.5 miles on it, I guess I’m the first driver for it. I’m glad I went back in! Interesting day!
COMMENT: Oh yeah, we def need that generator! Wish I were with you when this happened and not stuck at the hospital.
